What is a PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Visa® Prepaid Card?

The PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card is a reloadable Visa prepaid card and PATCO transit card all-in-one. It gives you protection and convenience similar to a traditional debit card* without the hassles of a credit application or fees associated with a bank account. Use it everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted. And from September 2011 to September 2012, you can travel with ease by waving your PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card to pay your PATCO fare, just like a FREEDOM Card.

*Must be registered to have balance protection and for your deposits to be FDIC insured up to $250,000.

How does my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card work?

Because it is a reloadable prepaid card, you can spend the amount of money you load on the card. Plus, because it carries the Visa Brand, you can use it anywhere Visa debit cards are accepted – in stores, online or over the phone. The Card tracks your Transit Benefit balances separately from your retail purchase balances. Each time you use your card, the purchase amount is automatically deducted from either your card retail balance or your PATCO Transit Benefit balance.

You can add money to your card for free on this web site, at kiosks in selected PATCO stations, or through the direct deposit of your wages, tax refunds, or other disbursements, such as social security, child support, welfare or other recurring payments. You can also load at Visa ReadyLink merchants for a fee.

The PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card has among the lowest fees of any reloadable prepaid card in the nation! It costs nothing to reload at kiosk in selected PATCO stations or online. How to Use My PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card

How do I make a purchase with my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card?

Just wave your card within proximity of a contactless card reader like those at the PATCO gates or swipe it using the magnetic stripe on a traditional card reader anywhere Visa debit cards are accepted. Each time you use your card, the purchase amount is automatically deducted from your card. Knowing your balance is important because your card will be declined if you do not have enough value to make the purchase.

Can I pay bills with my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card?

Yes. Bill Pay is supported on this website. Please note that each bill paid will carry a $1.50 Approved Bill Pay Transaction Fee.

Where can I pay with Visa payWave contactless technology?

You can wave and pay using your Visa payWave at PATCO gates and parking, in all 1,400 Philadelphia taxis and at any retailer where you see the contactless symbol. Pavewave Logo

Is there a limit to the amount of money I can add to my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card?

Until you register your card, there is a limit of $1000 total value that can be added and used on your card.  Once you register your card the $1000 limitation is removed.  Some other load limits include:

  • $100 maximum cash load at kiosk per transaction
  • $500 maximum cash load at ReadyLink retailer per transaction
  • $2500 maximum cash load per month
  • Seven (7) maximum number of loads per week
  • $2500 maximum account balance

Is there a limit to the amount of money I can spend with my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card?

An unregistered card can make purchases up to a maximum of $1000 assuming there are sufficient funds loaded on the card at the time of purchase. To continue using your card past the $1000 limitation, you must register your card.  Some other usage limitations include:

  • $2500 maximum purchase amount per transaction
  • $2500 maximum purchase amount per week
  • $500 maximum cash back per transaction (including ATM or retail cash withdrawal)
  • $2500 maximum cash back per week (including ATM or retail cash withdrawal)

When will my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card expire?

PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Cards will be accepted for fare payment on PATCO until September 26, 2012. However, they will remain valid anywhere Visa debit cards are accepted until the card expiry date (see expiration on card).

How should I properly handle my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card?

The PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card has a tiny computer chip and antenna inside the card. You should never bend nor punch holes in it. The card also has a magnetic stripe; therefore you should not bend, scratch or tear it.

How do I access my retail balance and transaction history?

This website will provide you with information about your retail transactions only. It will not provide TransitChek® or Commuter Check® fund balances or PATCO transaction history. To check your transit value balance and PATCO transaction history, visit the FREEDOM Card Services Center at Broadway Station or call the customer service number from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday at 1 (877) 373-6777.

How do I reload my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card?

You have four easy ways to reload your card:

  1. You can load cash in person at kiosks located at selected PATCO platforms (Lindenwold; Woodcrest; Haddonfield,  Ferry Avenue; Broadway East and West entrances; 8th and Market North and South entrances)
  2. You can set up Direct Deposit of your paychecks or government checks to have them automatically deposited to your card’s account.
  3. You can transfer funds from other debit or credit accounts by registering your card and securely logging into this website.
  4. And you can go to thousands of retailers that provide Visa ReadyLink loads. Find the ReadyLink Merchant closest to you by visiting, http://usa.visa.com/locators/readylink-locations.jsp.*

What can I do on my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE online account?

  • Load and reload funds on your card using debit or credit cards

How do I dispute PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card charge?

In case of errors or questions about electronic transactions on the Card, send a completed dispute form as soon as you can. You may obtain a copy of the dispute form from the Visa Prepaid website or by calling 1-866-317-9343. The completed dispute form must be sent to the address provided on the form. We must hear from you no later than 60 days after the transaction in question has been made available to you on the online statement. If you tell us orally, we require that you send us your complaint or question in writing within 10 business days.


I ordered my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card and I have not received it. What should I do?

Delay may be a result of the following:

  • We could not immediately validate your information
  • If this should occur, it would cause The Bancorp Bank to hold the funds that you requested to add to your PATCO Card until your identity can be validated. If this is the case, you will receive a letter from The Bancorp Bank requesting the information that needs validating. If you do not send sufficient identification within 30 days, then your pending account will be closed and your funds will be returned.
Lost, Stolen or Replacement PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Cards

What if I lose my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card?

Register your card to get Balance Protection¹. In the event that you lose your card, call 1 (866) 317-9343 and report the card missing. Customer service will arrange for a new card to be sent to you for a Lost/Stolen Card Replacement Fee of $5.95. The FREEDOM Card Services Center will disable your card in the PATCO system, and preserve its transit benefits value. Once you have your new card, bring it to the FREEDOM Card Services Center to get your transit benefit balance applied to your new card, if applicable.

Can my friend or family members use my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card?

Yes you can allow trusted friends and family members to use your card for retail purchases, but keep in mind this is a Visa Prepaid card with associated prepaid value. You can also allow trusted friends and family to use your card to ride PATCO, however, only one (1) person is able to use the card to pay their fare.

How do I sign up for Direct Deposit?

STEP 1:
Download and fill out the PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Direct Deposit form with the amount you want to deposit per pay check.

STEP 2:
Bring the PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Direct Deposit form to your employer and ask them for a Direct Deposit enrollment form.   You can also do direct deposit for other disbursements such as Social Security, child support, welfare, or other recurring payments in the same way.

STEP 3:
Attach your PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Direct Deposit form in the area for a voided check.

How do I load Transit Benefits?

TransitChek® vouchers, Commuter Check® vouchers, and other transit benefit vouchers can be registered to your card at the FREEDOM Card Services Center located at the Broadway Station. Transit benefits can only be used in the PATCO gated system and PATCO parking. They cannot be used for retail purchases, and the PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card will keep your transit funds separate from your retail account balance.

How do I check my Transit Benefits balances and PATCO transaction history?

To access your Transit Benefits balance or PATCO transaction history, visit the FREEDOM Card Services Center or call the PATCO Transit Assistance Customer Service number 1 (877) 373-6777 to get PATCO usage statements for FREE from our Customer Service representatives.

Can I apply Transit Benefits to my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card?

Yes. Seniors, the disabled, and anyone with a Medicare card can also use the PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card at any time, enjoying the discount during off-peak hours. Visit the FREEDOM Card Services Center at the Broadway station to register your reduced fare eligibility with your PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card.

When traveling on PATCO with family/friends, can they use my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card?

No. The same card cannot be used to pay for multiple riders at the same time. Each traveler must have his/her own card or ticket. The gate card reader only debits the card upon exit based on the distance traveled between entry and exit. You will not be able to exit the station if your card cannot station if your card cannot be debited correctly. If you experience difficulty at the gate, please call 1 (866) 317-9343.

Can I have more than one PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card?

Yes, you can have more than one card. But, each card is its own account and must be managed separately. However when riding PATCO you must use the same PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card at both the entry and exit gates during a trip. The gate card reader only debits the card upon exit based on the distance traveled between entry and exit. You will not be able to exit the station if your card cannot be debited correctly. If you experience difficulty at the gate, please call 1 (866) 317-9343.

Can I buy SEPTA Transfers with my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card?

No. Unfortunately, SEPTA Transfers can only be purchased at the PATCO ticket vending machines for cash at this time.

How do I use my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card at PATCO gates?

If your wallet or handbag has multiple contactless cards (such as a PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card and FREEDOM Card), be sure to remove the desired card and present only one card to the Gate. Only tag the gate target once on entry and once on exit. If there is transit benefits money associated with the card, it will be used first. Once the transit benefits money is depleted, the transit rides will be charged against the retail value money on your prepaid card. Make sure the same card is used for both entry and exit. If your card is rejected at a gate, please call Customer Service at 1 (877) 373-6777.

How do I use my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card in PATCO parking lots?

Touch your PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card on the target to park, like you would a FREEDOM Card. You must maintain a minimum retail balance on your card of at least $6 in order to use it in PATCO parking lots.

Can I use my PATCO Wave-and-Pay ANYWHERE Card to get Freedom-to-Save discounts?

This will be up to each retailer participating in the Freedom-to-Save program .  If not, your FREEDOM Card can still be used for this benefit.
