Is there an age limit to have a Visa Buxx card?

The Visa Buxx Cardholder must be at least 10 years old to have a Visa Buxx card. There is no maximum age limit to order a Visa Buxx Card. For example, the Visa Buxx Cardholder could be 22 years old.

Please note that when you first receive your new Visa Buxx card, you will be required to select a four-digit PIN.

How do I make purchases at merchant locations with my Navy Federal Visa Buxx card?

Using the Navy Federal Visa Buxx card for a purchase is similar to using a debit card. At the time of purchase, select “CREDIT,” sign the receipt and go! Or select “DEBIT” if prompted and enter your Personal Identification Number (“PIN”).If you have forgotten your PIN, click “Sign In” on this website. Navy Federal Visa Buxx Benefits

What are the benefits of a Navy Federal Visa Buxx card?

The Navy Federal Visa Buxx card helps put an end to last-minute ATM trips and constant asking for money. With online and automatic loading, combined with parental controls like spending and ATM limits, the Navy Federal Visa Buxx card makes it easy for you to provide your teen with spending money while teaching your teen financial responsibility. It enables parents to monitor spending and it’s safer than cash because Navy Federal protects you and your teen if the card is ever lost or stolen. And it gives your teen the freedom to use it everywhere that accepts Visa debit cards. Navy Federal Visa Buxx is perfect for school books, supplies, music, food, travel, and is great for peace of mind in case of emergencies.

Why is the Navy Federal Visa Buxx card safer than carrying cash?

When cash is lost, it is gone forever. However, if the Navy Federal Visa Buxx card or card number is ever lost or stolen you're protected with Navy Federal’s Zero Liability Policy. Your teen’s card will be replaced, the PIN will remain the same and the balance will be transferred to the new card. The replacement card will arrive within five to ten business days.

How does automatic loading make budgeting easier for parents?

Automatic loading is a convenient way to set up allowances, or budget how much money is given to a teen. Every week, once a month, or whenever you deem most appropriate, a pre-selected amount can be transferred from a parent’s Navy Federal Visa Check Card or credit card to the teen’s Navy Federal Visa Buxx card. It’s quick and easy, and helps take the stress out of giving teens cash.

How does the Navy Federal Visa Buxx card help teens with budgeting?

Navy Federal Visa Buxx gives teens a tool to learn the importance of budgeting wisely and planning accordingly by supplying an account history for them to review. Teens can access the account history feature by signing in using their username and password on the Navy Federal Visa Buxx Web site to keep track of purchases, check card balance, and find information and tips on financial management subjects.

Can parents set spending limits?

Yes, parents determine how much money gets loaded on the card, as well as when and how the card is loaded. Parents can sign in using their username and password on the Navy Federal Visa Buxx Web site to review their teen’s spending and suspend the card at any time, for any reason. In this way, the Navy Federal Visa Buxx card offers teen’s financial independence within safe, comfortable, and structured limits.

How can parents guide their teens to the most appropriate places to shop, especially online?

Parents can review a teen’s account anytime and see how much they are spending and where they are spending it. Parents can discuss with their teens how and where the card can be used. Together, you and your teen can agree on the best places to shop. But even more important is talking to your teen about money and what you expect from them.

How can the Navy Federal Visa Buxx card help teens be more financially responsible?

Using a Navy Federal Visa Buxx card is a first step—and a big responsibility—for your teen. When you sign your teen up for their Navy Federal Visa Buxx card, encourage them to take the “Money Tools quiz,” click Take the quiz! located on the Navy Federal Visa Buxx homepage. Also check out “Financial Football” at http://www.practicalmoneyskills.com/english/at_school/trainingcamp/.  Financial Football is free, teacher-tested and approved financial education program. Taking the quiz and reviewing the materials together will help to prepare your teen for the real world of managing a budget and using a Navy Federal Visa Buxx card.

Why is the Navy Federal Visa Buxx card a great way for family and friends to give gifts?

Parents can authorize Navy Federal Credit Union members who are family members or friends to put gift money on the Navy Federal Visa Buxx card. It’s faster and safer than mailing a check or giving cash, and it enables the teen to get what they want. After the parent enrolls and sets up their teen with a Visa Buxx card, the parent will have the option to add Family & Friends. Once the parent adds the Family & Friends, an email will be automatically sent to the Family & Friend with instructions of how to enroll and add a gift to the authorized teens’ Navy Federal Visa Buxx card.

Please note: if you do not give such notice within sixty (60) days after the theft or damage your claim may be denied. The representative will ask you for some preliminary claim information and send you the appropriate claim form. This claim form must be completed, signed, and returned with all the requested documentation within ninety (90) days from the date of theft or damage.

Gift recipients of eligible items may also handle the claim process if you wish. However, the gift recipient must provide all of the documents necessary to fully substantiate the claim. See terms and conditions for more information.

  • Your completed and signed claim form.

In most cases you will be asked to send in, at your expense, the damaged item to substantiate a claim. Retain the item in the event it is requested by the Benefit Administrator. See terms and conditions for more information.

How will I be reimbursed?

Provided that the terms and conditions of the benefit have been met, and depending on the nature and circumstances of the incident, the Benefit Administrator, at its discretion, may choose to discharge your claim in either of two ways:

  1. The damaged item (whether wholly or in part) may be repaired, rebuilt, or replaced. The lost or stolen item may be replaced. If the item is to be repaired, rebuilt, or replaced, you usually will be notified of the decision within fifteen (15) days following receipt of the required proof of theft/damage documentation.
  2. You may be reimbursed for the amount debited from your eligible Visa Buxx card for the eligible item as recorded on your eligible Visa Buxx card receipt up to a maximum of five hundred dollars ($500.00) per claim occurrence, less shipping and handling charges, and one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) per year per eligible cardholder.*

Under normal circumstances, reimbursement will take place within five (5) business days of receipt and approval of all required documents. In either case, the Benefit Administrator’s payment, replacement, or repair made in good faith will discharge the obligation under the benefit. See terms and conditions for more information.

Do I have to file with my insurance company?

Yes, if you have insurance (e.g. business owner’s, homeowner’s, renter’s, or automobile) or if you are covered by your employer’s insurance, you are required to file a claim with your own insurance company and to submit a copy of any claim settlement from your insurance company along with your claim form. In some cases, where the claim amount is within your personal insurance deductible, a copy of your personal insurance policy declaration page may be sufficient at the option of the Benefit Administrator.* See terms and conditions for more information.

*NOTE: Purchase Security is supplemental to, and excess of, any valid and collectible insurance and reimbursement from any other source. That means it does not duplicate, but pays in excess of, valid and collectible insurance or indemnity (including, but not limited to, homeowner’s, renters, automobile, or employer’s insurance policies). After all insurance or indemnity has been exhausted, Purchase Security will cover the theft or damage up to the amount charged to your eligible Visa Buxx card account and subject to the terms, exclusions, and limits of liability of the Benefit. Purchase Security will also pay for the outstanding deductible portion of your insurance or indemnity for eligible claims. The maximum limit of liability is five hundred dollars ($500.00) per claim and one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) per year per cardholder. You will receive no more than the purchase price as recorded on the eligible Visa Buxx card receipt. Where a protected item is part of a pair or a set, you will receive no more than the value (as described herein) of the particular part or parts, stolen or damaged, regardless of any special value that the item may have as part of such a pair or set, nor more than the proportionate part of an aggregate purchase price of such pair or set. Purchase Security is not “contributing” insurance, and this “non-contribution” provision shall take precedence over “non-contribution” provisions found in other insurance or indemnity descriptions, policies, or contracts.

Additional Provisions for Purchase Security: This protection provides benefits only to you the eligible Visa Buxx cardholder, and to whomever receives the eligible gifts you purchase with your eligible Visa Buxx card. The Benefit Administrator reserves the right to contact Navy Federal Credit Union to identify the cardholder as eligible for this benefit. This benefit is only provided to eligible purchases made by the Visa Buxx cardholder.

You shall use due diligence and do all things reasonable to avoid or diminish any loss or damage to property protected by this benefit. This provision will not be unreasonably applied to avoid claims.

If you make any claim knowing it to be false or fraudulent in any respect including, but not limited to, the cost of repair services, no coverage shall exist for such claim and your benefits may be canceled. Each claimant agrees that representations regarding claims will be accurate and complete. Any and all relevant provisions shall be void in any case of fraud, intentional concealment, or misrepresentation of material fact.

Once you report an occurrence, a claim file will be opened and shall remain open for six (6) months from the date of the damage or theft. No payment will be made on a claim that is not completely substantiated in the manner required by the Benefit Administrator within six (6) months of the date of theft or damage.

After the Benefit Administrator has paid your claim, all your rights and remedies against any party in respect of this theft or damage will be transferred to the Benefit Administrator to the extent of the payment made to you. You must give the Benefit Administrator all assistance as may reasonably be required to secure all rights and remedies. No legal action for a claim may be brought against us until sixty (60) days after we receive Proof of Loss. No legal action against us may be brought more than two (2) years after the time for giving Proof of Loss. Further, no legal action may be brought against us unless all the terms Guide to Benefit have been complied with fully.

This benefit is provided to eligible Visa Buxx cardholders at no additional cost. The terms and conditions contained in this Guide to Benefit may be modified by subsequent endorsements. Modifications to the terms and conditions may be provided via additional Guide to Benefit mailings, statement inserts or statement messages. The benefit described in this Guide to Benefit will not apply to Visa Buxx cardholders whose Visa Buxx Card accounts have been suspended or canceled.

Termination dates may vary. Visa and/or Navy Federal Credit Union can cancel or non-renew the benefit for eligible Visa Buxx cardholders, and if we do, we will notify you at least thirty (30) days in advance. This information is a description of the benefit provided to you as a Visa Buxx cardholder. It is insured by Indemnity Insurance Company of North America.

For general questions regarding the benefit, call the Benefit Administrator at 1-800-553-4820 or call collect at 303-967-1096. See terms and conditions for more information.

There is no fee for using your Card at a Navy Federal ATM, CO-OP Network, Money Pass, Walgreens (in California), or Cashpoints ATMs.  If you use your Card at other ATMs, including those displaying the Visa/PLUS logos, your card will be charged $1.00 per transaction, plus the terminal owner may charge additional fees and “surcharges” for ATM transactions.

Who can use the card?

Only the teen whose name appears on the card can use the card

How do parents add money to the card?

Adding money to the Navy Federal Visa Buxx card is the quick and easy way to make sure your teen has money for everyday uses, travel, and emergencies. Just log onto www.NavyFederal.org/visabuxxcard/ anytime, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Remember to verify transfer of the funds before your teen uses the card.

Teens can add funds too using Visa ReadyLink!

Visa ReadyLink gives parents and teens an additional and convenient way of adding value to your Navy Federal Visa Buxx card and immediate access to those funds.

Present your card, along with the funds to be loaded, to the cashier at any Visa ReadyLink location. Just look for the Visa ReadyLink symbol on the back of your card or you can also find participating Visa ReadyLink Locations near you by clicking the locator symbol on our Visa Buxx homepage.

Your card will be swiped, and your funds will be applied. The cashier will provide you with a receipt, and you'll have immediate access to your funds. Each participating Visa ReadyLink retailer may choose the type of funds that are accepted, e.g. cash.

What is ReadyLink?

Visa ReadyLink is a convenient service that provides you with a simple way to add funds to your Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card. Visa ReadyLink load transactions are accepted at thousands of US locations, including 7-Eleven, Safeway, Vons, Dominick's, Carrs, Genuardi's, Pak ‘n Save, Pavilions, Randalls, and Tom Thumb stores. Find Visa ReadyLink locations near you.

The merchant couldn't make Visa ReadyLink work with my card. What happened?

If the participating Visa ReadyLink merchant could not add funds to your Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card, your load request was most likely not approved. You may have exceeded the daily load limit or the total balance on the card. Merchants may also place limits on the frequency of loads. You can contact us at 1-866-304-1909 for more information.

Is there any transaction fees associated with Visa ReadyLink?

Navy Federal does not charge you a fee for using this service. Some retailers may charge a fee to load value to the Card. These fees, if any, are established independently by each participating provider and retailer.

What is Visa Money Transfer?

Your Card is eligible to receive funds through Visa Money Transfer from participating Financial Institutions. Navy Federal Credit Union is not an originator of Visa Money Transfer; therefore you cannot initiate a Visa Money Transfer from your Visa Buxx Card to another card.

Why is it so important to always know the balance on the card?

Merchants cannot tell how much money is on the card until your teen tries to make a purchase. Any attempt to make a purchase for an amount that is greater than the cardholder’s available balance will be declined. While this does not happen very often, it is important for the cardholder to keep track of their available balance to help avoid this situation.

Your teen can use a second payment method (cash, check, or a credit or debit card) in combination with the Navy Federal Visa Buxx card to make a purchase greater than the balance on the card. It’s okay for the card to fully deplete funds. If this happens, simply follow the appropriate steps to replenish the card.

What if a merchant puts an item through without prior authorization?

Occasionally, a merchant does put an item through without prior authorization. If the purchase exceeds the available balance, the cardholder's card will have a negative balance. In these rare circumstances, where non-sufficient funds occur, you would be notified to load more funds onto the card. If either you or the Teen makes a purchase which exceeds the available balance on the Card, you shall remain fully responsible for the amount of the purchases approved or the cash withdrawn. We recommend checking the balance of your Card before using it.

How do teens keep track of their balance?

We recommend that the teen use a transaction register (similar to a check register) to record all of their purchases and deposits. This makes it easy to keep track of their current balance and is great practice for when they have a checking account in the future. Teens should also keep their receipts and compare them to their register and online statement. By tracking their activity regularly, your teen will always know how much they are spending, where they have spent it, and how much is on the card. This helps them to understand budgeting and the value of money, and it makes shopping with Navy Federal Visa Buxx easy.

How do parents and teens find out the card balance?

Both parents and teens can check the card balance by logging onto www.NavyFederal.org/visabuxxcard/, or by calling 1-866-304-1909.

Do merchants ever tie up more funds than your intended purchase price?

It is important to know that some merchants like restaurants and gas stations “reserve” more money than your teen may actually plan to spend. They do this to cover variable costs like tips or a tank of gas. Within 3–7 days, the “reserve” is cancelled and the funds become available again on the Navy Federal Visa Buxx card.

What if the Navy Federal Visa Buxx card is lost or stolen?

Either a parent or teen should call 1-866-304-1909 immediately. Your replacement card will arrive in 5 to 10 business days. The PIN will remain the same and the balance will be transferred to the new card.

Is identification required to use the card?

As a security measure to protect the teen, a merchant might ask to see a teen's ID, which could be a school ID or a driver's license. If the teen doesn't carry ID, the merchant can match the signature on the back of the card to the teen's signature on the receipt.

Can teens use the Navy Federal Visa Buxx card at an ATM?

During enrollment, the parent can select whether or not to allow cash access.  The parent may elect at a later time to select or turn off cash access online at www.NavyFederal.org/visabuxxcard/.   The four-digit PIN is chosen when the initial Visa Buxx card is activated. The teen can use the Navy Federal Visa Buxx card to withdraw cash from a Navy Federal ATM, CO-OP Network, Money Pass, Walgreens (in California), Cashpoints, or Visa/ PLUS Network ATM. The maximum amount allowable for cash withdrawals from ATMs, cash back at places such as grocery stores and drugstores and cash advances from Financial Institutions that accept Visa debit cards is limited to $500.00 per seven day period. The parent may designate a withdrawal limit less than the maximum allowed.

What if my teen has forgotten their PIN?

Either you or your teen can change the forgotten PIN via the website by clicking the “Forgot PIN” option located on the left-hand side.
