General Information about the Susquehanna Bank Teen Card

What is a Susquehanna Bank Teen Card? ("Teen Card")

The Teen Card is a prepaid, reloadable Visa® Card created especially for teens.  In conjunction with this card, parents or legal guardians can teach teens how to create a budget, manage money and shop wisely.  It can be used almost everywhere that Visa cards are accepted, including ATMs.  Parents and legal guardians have the opportunity to monitor teens’ spending and can set limits on available cash.

What is the difference between a prepaid card, a debit card and a credit card?

A prepaid card means that there is an amount of funds loaded onto the card that can be used for purchases and withdrawals which are deducted from the card.  The Teen Card is not linked to a checking account like a check card, or to a line of credit like a credit card.

What is the difference between a Susquehanna Teen Card and a Susquehanna Gift Card?

Both cards are prepaid cards with an amount of funds loaded onto them.  The Teen Card, however, can be reloaded (within limits) as the funds are used whereas the Susquehanna Gift Card is not reloadable and cannot be used once the original loaded funds are depleted. Additionally, both parents and teens can access their Teen Card transaction activity online.

Why is the Teen Card safer than cash?

If the Teen Card is lost or stolen, you are protected with Visa’s Zero Liability Policy (http://usa.visa.com/personal/security/visa_security_program/zero_liability.html). Your teen’s card may be replaced and the balance transferred to the new card.  The replacement card usually arrives in five to ten business days after the reported loss.

How can using the Teen Card help teach teens how to budget and shop wisely?

The Teen Card supplies a transaction activity history for teen cardholders to review.  They can access the history feature by going to www.visaprepaidprocessing.com/susquehanna/teen to keep track of purchases, get a card balance and find information and tips on financial management subjects. Parents and legal guardians can review a teen’s card activity anytime and see how much the teen is spending and where they are spending it.  They can also discuss with their teens how and where the Teen Card should be used.

Using the Susquehanna Bank Teen Card

Where can the Teen Card be used?

The Teen Card can be used at ATM machines and can be used almost everywhere that Visa is accepted.  The Teen Card is restricted from use on internet gambling sites.  Susquehanna may also restrict access at certain merchants or locations.

Who may order a Teen Card?

The Teen Card may be ordered by a parent or legal guardian whose child is at least 13 years of age.  The buyer must be a Susquehanna customer with a Susquehanna checking account in good standing and an associated Visa Check Card.

Who may use the Teen Card?

Only the teen whose name is embossed on the card may use the Teen Card.

What is the purchase price?

The purchase price of each Teen Card is $10.00.

Can parents and legal guardians set cash access limits?

Yes. Susquehanna has placed certain limits on the use of the Teen Card, but the parent or legal guardian may choose lower cash access limits or eliminate cash access altogether.

How do teens keep track of their balance?

Teens (and parents) have access to the Susquehanna Bank Teen Card Website at www.visaprepaidprocessing.com/susquehanna/teen where they may check balances and card activity.

They may also call the automated telephone system to hear the card balance and receive 2 free calls per month; calls exceeding 2 per month are assessed a $.50 fee per call.

Can parents and legal guardians monitor their teen's balance and card activity?

Yes, parents and legal guardians have access to their teen’s information on the Susquehanna Teen Card website at www.visaprepaidprocessing.com/susquehanna/teen, where they may also set limits and controls such as the amount of cash that can be withdrawn from an ATM or the maximum amount that can be spent on a purchase. They may also choose to receive alerts by email or text if the balance on the card falls below a certain level, or if the card is used at adult sites. Parents and legal guardians can also arrange to have their teens receive the alerts.

Are there any fees associated with a Teen Card?

Yes, unless the parent has eliminated cash access, the teen can withdraw funds at an ATM up to the limit that has been set. To perform a cash withdrawal with the card, the cardholder would select the “Withdraw from Checking” option, followed by “Primary Checking” at most ATMs. Withdrawals at Susquehanna ATMs are at no charge. There is a fee of $2.00 per transaction at a non-Susquehanna ATM, and the owner of the ATM may also charge a fee.

Is there a fee for using the card internationally?

Yes, there is a fee of 3% of the purchase amount in USD when the card is used for any transaction at a merchant or ATM located outside of the US or one of it’s territories.

Are monthly statements provided?

Yes, a monthly Paper Statement is provided at no charge.

How are the Teen Cards reloaded?

Parents and Legal Guardians can reload funds onto the Teen Card through www.visaprepaidprocessing.com/susquehanna/teen with their Susquehanna Visa Check Card.  Parents/Guardians and Teens can use cash to reload the Teen Card at a Susquehanna Bank branch and the cardholder can reload cash onto the Card at a Visa ReadyLink location. The Visa ReadyLink owner may charge their own fee. Funds will become available for use on the business day that they are loaded.

What is a "pre-authorization"?

When the Teen Card is used for a purchase, the merchant may request prior authorization to confirm that sufficient funds are available on the card.  If there are not enough funds on the card, the purchase is generally declined.  The funds are not debited from the Teen Card until the merchant completes the transaction, however a 3-7 business day hold may be placed on the funds depending on the merchant.

Do merchants ever tie up more funds than the intended purchase price?

It is important to know that for certain types of transactions,  like restaurants and gas stations, an additional “hold” may apply. This is to cover variable costs like tips added to the restaurant bill or when using an Automated Fuel Dispenser to purchase gas.   Within 3-7 business days, the “hold” is usually cancelled and the funds become available again on the Teen Card.

Can my teen spend more than the amount on the Teen Card?

Occasionally, a purchase amount may be approved that will exceed the available balance on the card. This will result in a negative balance on the card.   You are responsible for the amount of the negative balance, as well as any Negative Balance fees.    We reserve the right to automatically debit the amount of such transactions and fees from current or future transfers of funds to the Teen Card, or any other account the parent or legal guardian maintains at Susquehanna Bank.

What if I want to close my teen's Susquehanna Bank Teen Card?

You can close your Teen Card in any branch.  Please keep in mind that once you have permanently closed the Teen Card, you cannot re-activate or re-open it.  Although your teen can no longer use the Teen Card, the Teen Card will remain active for 14 business days to allow all pending transactions and applicable fees to post. If the Teen Card has a remaining available balance after all transactions and applicable fees have posted, the available balance minus any account closure fee will be credited to your Funding Account.  If the Teen Card has a negative balance after all transactions have posted, your Funding Account will be charged the remaining balance plus any applicable fees.

Once you close the Teen Card, you and the teen have access to the Teen Card information via the toll-free number (800.311.3182) or via the website (www.visaprepaidprocessing.com/susquehanna/teen) for the next 90 days.
