PayCard FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a TD Bank PayCard?

A TD Bank PayCard is a Visa branded prepaid card that is loaded each pay period with your net pay. A TD Bank PayCard allows the company you work for to offer direct deposit to employees who do not have a checking account or who do not want their pay deposited into their existing bank account.

Is this a credit card?

No, your TD Bank PayCard is not a credit card, it is a prepaid reloadable card. You can only spend the amount of money that has been loaded to your card by your employer.

Is my card like a debit card?

Yes and no. Like a debit card, you can spend only the funds available. However, unlike a debit card, you do not have a bank account associated with the card.

Will my name appear on my PayCard?

Yes, your name will appear on your TD Bank PayCard.

How do I activate my card?

Once the card is received you must call PayCard Customer Service at 1-866-906-4172 or visit online customer service at www.tdbank.com/payroll to activate the card. Once this occurs, you may use the card as soon as the company makes the deposit.

Do I have to withdraw my entire pay on payday?

No, there is no need to withdraw your total pay on payday.  Your net pay is automatically loaded on your individual pay card each pay period by the start of the workday.  You may use your TD Bank PayCard everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted, at pinned point-of-sale (POS) terminals and at ATMS for any portion of your available balance as often as you like.

How can I be sure of the balance on my card?

You can complete a balance inquiry using automated account information via the toll-free customer service number, at an ATM, or you may also check your balance online at www.tdbank.com/payroll. It is recommended you perform a balance inquiry before performing a transaction so you will know how much money you have available.

How can I use my PayCard?

You can use your TD Bank Visa- branded PayCard to obtain cash at an ATM and pay for purchases at merchants accepting Visa debit cards.

Where can I use the card?

The card is welcome at ATMs displaying the NYCE, Plus or Visa logos, including all TD Bank ATMs. It is also welcome at merchants who accept Visa debit cards.

How do I use the card to make a purchase?

Look for the Visa debit card logo on the door or near the cash register to determine if the merchant is a participating merchant. You will swipe your card at a special terminal near the cash register and identify the transaction as a “credit” transaction. You will need to sign the receipt to complete the transaction. Many participating merchants will also allow you to get additional cash back from the transaction if you choose. See the Terms & Conditions for using your PIN to perform debit transactions.

Can I use my card to make a purchase that is larger than the balance on my card?

No, you cannot access more than the balance available on your card.

Can the card ever have a negative balance?

Usually a purchase cannot be made for more than the amount available. Occasionally a merchant will allow a purchase before checking the amount available, which might result in a negative balance. By keeping track of the amount available, you can avoid a possible fee.

How can I use my card to pay monthly bills?

You can use your TD Bank PayCard to pay bills in person, over the phone, or with the PayCard online Bill Pay service.

Can I pay my bills from the PayCard website?

Yes, after you login to the PayCard website select the Bill Pay link and enroll. Once enrolled in the Bill Pay program you can make payments to anyone using the funds in your PayCard account. You can choose to make a one-time payment, schedule a payment at a further date, or pay automatically at regular intervals.

May I let someone else use my card?

Absolutely not. Keep your card and the card number under your control at all times. Do not tell anyone your PIN or write your PIN on your card. If you need to provide access to an authorized person a card may be issued in their name. They will have access to all funds and services on the card.

How can I get my entire pay including the dollars and cents that are not available from an ATM?

You may perform a Visa cash advance at any bank to obtain the entire amount of your net pay. You should first either call the VRU at 1-866-906-4172 toll-free, or log onto the website www.tdbank.com/payroll to obtain your card balance. You will need to provide the balance to the teller. If a cash advance is performed at a non-TD Bank bank, that bank may charge you a fee. Any dollar amount not used within a given pay period is carried over to the following pay period and remains on your card as a balance.

What happens if my PayCard is lost or stolen?

If your card is lost or stolen, you should call your employer immediately. You should also call PayCard Customer Service at 1-866-906-4172 at any time, day or night. Follow the recorded instructions. Your PayCard account will be closed so that any fraudulent activity is kept to a minimum. A new card with your name embossed on it will be sent to you within approximately seven business days. You must activate the new card once you receive it.

Will I be liable for any purchases that are made before my card is closed?

If you lose you card, it is like losing cash. It is very important to contact your employer and PayCard Customer Service as outlined above, in order to keep your losses to a minimum. You will not be liable for unauthorized purchases made with your Payroll Card when it is used as if it were a credit card; that is, when identified as a “credit” transaction that is signed for with your signature. Please see the Terms & Conditions for further information regarding the fraudulent use of the PayCard and/ or PIN when PIN based transactions are made with your PayCard.

What happens if I terminate my employment?

Upon termination of employment, your PayCard shall expire and no longer be valid for use. Upon expiration of your PayCard, your employer will issue you a check for any remaining balance on your PayCard. Prior to such reimbursement, all transactions on your PayCard must be cleared which could take up to 10 business days.
