The Employment Development Department (EDD) has changed banks, and is now issuing unemployment, disability, and Paid Family Leave benefit payments to a Money Network prepaid debit card.

What you need to know

  • As of February 15, 2024, Bank of America prepaid debit cards ("Bank of America card") stopped receiving new benefit payments from the EDD. If you are eligible for benefit payments after this date, the EDD has advised us that you may receive a new Money Network prepaid debit card. Learn more at edd.ca.gov/DebitCard.
  • If you received a notice from us that your card account has been closed, please contact our Service Center at 866.692.9374 to request a check for any remaining balance.

If you currently have an active Bank of America card, here is what you need to know.

  • If your existing Bank of America card expires after March 31, 2024, upon its expiration, no new card will be issued.
  • If you have any recurring bill payments set up on your card, remember to change to another form of payment by April 15, 2024.
  • April 15, 2024, will be the last date you are able to use your existing Bank of America card as you normally do. Please spend or transfer the entire balance remaining on your existing Bank of America card by April 15, 2024. After this date your card will be deactivated, and your account will be closed.
  • You will have additional time, through April 30, 2024, to transfer your remaining balance to a checking or savings account. To transfer funds to your existing checking or savings account, select the "Transfer funds" option within this site.
  • Before or after April 30, 2024, you may retrieve any funds that remain on your card account by contacting our Service Center at 866.692.9374 to request a check.
  • For additional information our Service Center can be reached at 866.692.9374, 866.656.5913 (TTY), or 423.262.1650 (collect, when calling outside the U.S.).
